Giant Task For Selangor

“It will be hard to get three wins on board but I’m confident we can do it,” said Irfan at the pre-match press conference at the Shah Alam Stadium yesterday. “We lost our two earlier AFC Cup matches despite playing well. We just couldn’t convert our chances. I hope we get the job done in the next three matches, starting with Saigon Xuan Thanh tomorrow,” said Bakti. Irfan, however, will have to rotate his squad as he has an eye on their Super League match against Felda United on Saturday.

“I hope our second stringers can step up and make the difference in this match.” Irfan will welcome back Slovakian midfielder Michael Kubala who has recovered from a heel injury. Nippy winger Mohd Fitri Shazwan Raduwan is also expected to feature after returning from a long-term knee injury.

Saigon Xuan Thanh emerged 2-1 winners in Ho Chi Minh City last Wednesday but coach Tran Tien Dai preferred to be cautious ahead of today’s match. “We have beaten them at home but I know Selangor will be a tougher opponent in front of their home fans. We have to watch out for Selangor’s No. 10 (Francis Doe). He was a handful for our defenders last week. We must make sure we mark him out of the game,” said Tien Dai.

“We will be happy if we can get a point. We have brought only 16 players for this match as three of our key players are unavailable.”
