MDHS secretary Azman Dahlan said the ride was organised annually and would be used as a platform for cyclists to test their endurance on the uphill climb.
“The route that the participants will take will be also used as the route for the Tour De Langkawi next year.
“This event is also to promote tourism in Hulu Selangor as a scenic destination.
“Spectators who follow the event up to Genting Highlands will be able to pick strawberries for free of charge and eat it fresh at the Strawberry Leisure Farm in Gohtong Jaya,
“There is also a bee and insect farm in Genting Highlands where spectators can visit, besides a lucky draw,” said Azman, during the launch at MDHS building in Kuala Kubu Baru recently.
In addition, MDHS president Tukiman Nail said the Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB) town has been a hub for cyclists and other tourists on weekends for more than a decade.
“Many cyclists stop here before cycling or riding to either Fraser’s Hill or Genting Highlands.
“We hope this event will encourage the younger generation to take up this healthy sport,” said Tukiman, who had a Hari Raya Haji ritual ceremony at the premises with a corporate company.
During the ceremony, the sacrificed meat was distributed to some 200 residents in the surrounding area.
The entry fee for each participant is RM55.
