Shin Yee said she has set her sights to finish among the top three performers at the MSSS and confirm her place for the MSSM. “It will be great to be part of the MSSS team for the MSSM again. “I doubt that I will have time for gymnastics when I enter college next year. “The friendly school-based training environment has allowed me to pursue gymnastics over the years.
“It has been part of my routine starting from primary school. I have many fond memories joining various junior competitions. “I will certainly cherish the special moments,” she added. Selangor are also hosting the MSSM meet scheduled at the National Sports Council (NSC) in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur from June 4 to 8.
Shin Yee said it was not her main priority to chase after the elusive gold medal from the individual contests at the MSSM. “I do not want to be distracted by setting high targets. Honestly, it is going to be an uphill task to upstage the more accomplished gymnasts from the state and national junior training camps. “My aim is to have fun in competing in my final outing at the MSSM.
“I will be satisfied to perform up to my true potential and produce respectable results,” she added. Shin Yee was part of the Selangor’s victorious line-up in the girls’ Under-18 team event and also took home a bronze medal from the floor exercise in the same age-group at last season’s MSSM.
Besides securing the gold medal in the girls’ Under-15 team event with the Selangor team in 2010, Shin Yee also collected two silver (team and vault) medals in the girls’ Under-15 section at the MSSM in 2011. Meanwhile, Shin Yee is also a key member in the three-time and reigning inter-school cheerleading champions Cyrens of Sri Kuala Lumpur.
Despite carrying an agonising left ankle injury, Shin Yee showed her character and carried on the journey with heavy strapping as Cyrens went on to chalk up their back-to-back victory in 2011. Shin Yee, who was part of the winning side on three previous occasions, said they hope to extend their winning run to four in a row.
“Going into the competition as the defending champions, we have a good chance to live up to our billing as the favourites and retain the top position this year as we have developed a very strong bond with each other. “We have maintained the high spirit in the team and are committed to accomplish our aim,” she added.
