"I did not warm up at all because of the haze. It's tough to breathe and I was not expecting to clock a good time," said Rayzam.
"My coach (Raymie Abu Bakar) did not want me to run but I thought since this would be my last race before the ATF, I'd give it a go. I've also yet to qualify for the Sea Games so I needed to run here."
Rayzam, who clocked his season's best of 13.96s in taking bronze at the Asian Grand Prix third leg in Colombo, was in Europe for a month but only ran in three of six planned races there before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
"It rained all the time in Germany and some places were flooded. I could hardly train and some competitions were postponed because of the weather.
"I only ran three races and I ran one race when the temperature dropped to nine degree Celsius. I decided to come back earlier so that I can run here instead. There was no point staying there given the weather conditions."
There were several other national athletes in action yesterday including S. Kannathasan who won the men's 200m final in 21.67s.
Johor's Nauraj Singh Randhawa cleared 2.15m to edge national and state teammate S. Navinraj (2.10) to the high jump title.
But both remained behind Lee Hup Wei's leading performance for 2013 when the former Asian champion managed 2.22m in a meeting in Germany on Friday.
Adi Alifuddin Hussin easily won the men's shot put with a 16.38m effort while S. Komalam Shally ran away with the women's 200m title in 25.51s after finishing second in the 100m in a photo-finish.
"I was not really prepared to run the 200m but I just ran anyway and the time was so bad. I was more focused on the 100m as I will be going to the ATF for the first time and I want to do well there," said Komalam, 25.
