In 2007 and 2009, its popularity grew to attract about 3,000 and 6,000 participants, respectively.
In 2011, the event was held at three venues, namely Selangor, Johor and Penang, and on the same day about 15,000 participants took part.
This year Alor Setar, Kota Baru and Kuala Terengganu will host the event tomorrow, while on Sunday it will be staged in Penang, Ipoh, Klang, Petaling Jaya, Seremban, Malacca, Johor Baru, Batu Pahat, Kuantan, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
The Youth & Sports Ministry, along with Universal Fitness & Leisure (UFL), are supporting the event. UFL managing director Datuk V. Radhakrishnan said they were doing it “to promote peace and unity”.
“We are contributing Deuter and Coleman products worth RM10,000 to the event. We have been associated with Soka Gakkai Malaysia since 1998 when they presented an audio-visual spectacular during the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games and we are pleased and proud to be part of their noble mission,’’ said Radhakrishnan after handing over their sponsorship to Liu Cheng Choong, a council member of Soka Gakkai Malaysia.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, who was also at the presentation ceremony, applauded Soka Gakkai Malaysia for initiating the run.
“Soko Gakkai Malaysia has declared September as the “Month of Peace” and they have succeeded in getting about 50,000 participants for the event. We also commend UFL for supporting the event,’’ said Kok Chi.
