Nor Emily, a Year Six pupil of SK Palong 8 (Felda), draws inspiration from her 15-year-old brother Nor Izzuddin who is a football player for MSSD Jempol.
Her idol is her school senior, Nor Azira Aini Razali, 13, who was last year's MSSM best batter in the girls' Under-12.
In September 2011, at the age of 10, Nor Emily was chosen through a talent identification programme in her school.
The following year, she started playing softball competitively for her school and won the gold medal at the MSSNS meet as well as the bronze at the MSSM meet.
She trains at her school field from 4pm to 6.30pm on week days and travels 130km to Seremban on weekends for state training.
The pint-sized girl said: "My parents, Othman Sani and Norrana Ismail, who are Felda settlers, encourage us to be active in sports as long as we do well in our studies.
"Regular practice and team work among players is our key to success in softball.
"My most memorable moment was being chosen as a Negri player and winning the bronze MSSM medal in Kuala Terengganu last year.
"My ultimate aim is be to a Malaysia Games player for Negri one day."
Coach Rakib Sadui said: "Nor Emily has strong hands which make her an effective pitcher.
"The Negri team underwent two weeks of centralised training at SM Teknik Tuanku Jaafar to have full home ground advantage prior to this MSSM meet."
