The fund was set up in 1999 in memory of Alex, who died in a scuba-diving accident off the coast of Papua New Guinea.
The championships, the 11th in the series, is a four-men team event. The best three scores count and will determine the winners.
The National Sports Association (NSA) must be represented by at least one of its members in each flight.
The OCM has set a target of RM1mil with a view to providing at least four annual grants to current and former national athletes to further their education.
This year, five new recipients will be announced at the prize giving ceremony. Six athletes - Wong Zi Jing (chess), Low Wee Nee (squash), Nessrine Ariffin (squash), Ithnin Mahadi (athletics), Fazli Hisham Fauzi (archery) and Tan Hui Tien (dance sport) - will also benefit from the fund this year.
Kok Chi said the six athletes had done well in their respective studies.
“They have submitted their progress reports which are encouraging. The OCM will support them from the Tan Sri Alex Lee Education Fund, which is committed to helping them excel in education,’’ added Kok Chi.
To-date, a total of 34 athletes have been granted scholarships from the fund. They include former international cyclist M. Kumaresan, 1998 Commonwealth Games 50km walk gold medallist G. Saravanan, gymnast Durratun Nashihin Rosli and squash player Nabilla Ariffin.
The entry fee for the golf tournament is RM1,600 per team for NSA, sponsors and SGCC members, and RM3,000 for corporate golfers.
Individuals will have to pay RM500 each. Prizes will be awarded to the top-five teams.
