Megah Murni, who defeated Suriavilla 7-1 the previous week, were expected to beat Pelangi. But surprisingly, Pelangi were the aggressive side from the first whistle. Megah Murni goalkeeper R. Yugentaran was in good form and denied Pelangi any goals in the opening 10 minutes.
Megah Murni gained the momentum and after several missed attempts scored in the 14th minute when M. Terence fired a curling free kick past a rooted Pelangi goalkeeper Alif Sufri Mohtar.
Alif was beaten again two minutes later. This time, captain D. Kogilan scored. Megah Murni and Pelangi had several open chances but failed to make them count in the first half.
The second half resumed with Pelangi playing with confidence and were impressive in their build-up. And they punished Megah Murni for their sloppy defence in the 60th minute when Mohd Ikhwan Abu Kassim scored.
The goal was an inspiration to Pelangi and they played with confidence. Ten minutes later, they earned a penalty and once again Mohd Ikhwan made no mistake from the spot kick.
Pelangi president Mohamed Yasin praised his players for their gallant performance.
“It was an excellent fightback from our players. We could have collected maximum points but a draw is better than losing,” he said.
Megah Murni president G. Gunabalan was not so happy about sharing the points with Pelangi.
“We should have won the match. It looks like the players took it easy and we have to win our next match to be assured of place in the quarter-finals,’’ he said.
